Dolly Rebecca Parton
Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on the
19th of January 1946 in Pittman Center, Tennessee and was raised in
Sevierville, Tennessee to Avie Lee Parton who was a housewife and Robert Lee
Parton, a tobacco farmer. She appeared appearing on Knoxville TV at 12 years
old. At the age of 13, she had a recording contract with an unnamed label and
singing at the Grand Ole Opry. She relocated to Nashville in 1964 to begin her
singing career following her graduation from high school. Carl Dean, a
asphalt-paving company owner was her first lover. They got married on May 30
the 30th of May, 1966. Porter Wagoner hired her in 1967 to perform on his show,
The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She remained on the show for 7 years, their
duets went viral and she was a part of his band on the Grand Ole Opry; she also
performed on tour and sold records. Her biggest hit "Joshua" was a
chart-topper. the top spot in 1970, was her biggest hit single. She made the
decision to go on her own and remained with the group, even though she recorded
duets with him. She had left him and began her solo career in 1974. Dolly
became a huge hit as a singer/songwriter. Dolly won many Country Music
Association awards (1968, 1970, 1971, 1975, 1976). This petite (5'0")
beauty was an ideal candidate for TV, and by the mid-1970s she was appearing
frequently on talk and TV specials shows prior to launching her own, Dolly
(1976). Dolly received her first Grammy award for Best Female Country Vocal
Performance in 1977 for "Here You Come Again". Dolly made her debut
in a film in the film 9 to 5, 1980. The film was nominated for an Oscar for the
title song, as well as Grammy Awards 2/3: Best Country Song and Best Female
Country Vocal Performance. She got more fame for being in The Best Little
Whorehouse in Texas (1982) and in Rhinestone (1984) with the hit song
"Tennessee Homesick Blues". She is the founder of Dolly Parton
Enterprises, a $100 million media company, and in 1986, she established
Dollywood, a theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, in celebration of her Smoky
Mountain upbringing. She was in the Dolly (1987) TV series. She was awarded a
second Grammy in 1988 for Best Country Performance Duo/Group with Vocals for
"Trio".
